Rice with Indian Spices

Ingredients

  • 250 g basmati rice
  • 1 tbsp ghee or butter
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 5 cardamom pods
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 l water

Instructions

Heat ghee or butter in a medium saucepan. Add the cumin seeds, cardamon pods, and cinnamon stick and toast over low heat for a few minutes.

Add the rice, turmeric, and salt and stir to combine.

Add the water and bring to a boil.

Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 15 minutes.

Drain excess water from pot and let sit covered in pot for 10 minutes.

Remove cinnamon stick before serving.
